Mary Millben Alleges US Funding for Abhijeet Deepke, Cites Anti-Modi Donors
American singer Mary Millben alleges US-based anti-Modi donors are funding CJP chief Abhijeet Deepke. The claims emerge as CJP leaders face judicial custody and the party threatens protests in Delhi.
The allegations have emerged at a time when the CJP has threatened to launch a protest in Delhi. Deepke was detained by police on Sunday, while CJP leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Saurabh Das were sent to five days of judicial custody on Wednesday for allegedly hoisting the Tricolour at Jantar Mantar and violating Section 163.
Millben Calls Alleged Funding a Conspiracy
Addressing young patriots in India, the American singer wrote, “To all the young patriots of India. This is not the time to remain silent. Abhijeet Deepke and the Cockroach Janata Party are being funded by US donors who are against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Your Prime Minister, who has served India for 25 years, been Prime Minister for 12 years, and been elected three consecutive times, will not bow before the disruptive forces in my country.”
She further alleged that the donors followed a pattern of targeting conservative leaders worldwide by identifying young people from the countries concerned who had studied in the United States, radicalising them, sending them back to their home countries and funding them to create disruption.
Millben wrote, “And these selected donors have one pattern around the world: targeting conservative leaders, finding young people in that country who have studied in America, radicalising them, sending them back to their country and funding them to create havoc. So far, none of them have succeeded, but they have affected the country's development and governance.”
However, she did not identify any individual or organisation allegedly involved in the funding or provide specific evidence in the statement cited.
Deepke Responds to Questions About Funding
Questions about funding were also raised with Deepke during a press conference in Mumbai. Responding to a query about the party's finances and the allegations of irregularities in elections, he questioned the relevance of the issue.
“It seems that if I disclose the funding we are receiving publicly, will the elections become fair? Forgive me, but there is no logic in the question. What does our funding have to do with the irregularities taking place in the Election Commission?” Deepke said.
Asked about the scale of the planned protest, Deepke responded by referring to the size of the stage. “It is a small stage, a small one. Come and see tomorrow; it is a small stage,” he said.
He also addressed questions surrounding photographs of his footwear that had circulated publicly, acknowledging that he wore shoes worth Rs 30,000.
“Photographs of my shoes were widely circulated. I am wearing shoes worth Rs 30,000, and I am not ashamed to say so. I can afford them,” Deepke said.
Referring to his visits to the United States, he said people had frequently asked him during his previous trip how he managed to travel across every state. He argued that if he could travel to the United States, he could also travel across the states of India.
CJP Leaders Sent to Tihar Jail
On Wednesday, Ranka and Das were brought to Tihar Jail, where they are expected to remain for five days under judicial custody. Another party office-bearer, Ajinkya Shinde, had also been arrested alongside them but was released on a bond of Rs 5,000.
Police have alleged that Ranka and Das are repeat offenders and have failed to comply with bonds they signed to maintain peace. Their detention followed the incident at Jantar Mantar, where the CJP leaders allegedly attempted to hoist the national flag in violation of Section 163.
The developments have intensified the confrontation between the party and the authorities as the CJP threatens further protests in the national capital.
Deepke Accuses Modi Government of Imposing an Undeclared Emergency
Reacting to the detention of party leaders, Deepke addressed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and demanded an official declaration if the government intended to impose an Emergency in the country.
“I want to tell Narendra Modi that if you want to impose an Emergency in the country, announce it officially,” Deepke said.
He added, “What is this? Acting like cowards and imposing an undeclared Emergency, where people are kept in custody for five days for hoisting the national flag at Jantar Mantar? Even during the Emergency, this did not happen.”
The allegations made by Millben, Deepke's response to questions about funding, and the judicial custody of the CJP leaders have placed the party's proposed Delhi protest at the centre of a growing political and legal confrontation. While Millben has alleged that US-based donors opposing Modi are financing the party, she has not named them, leaving the specific funding claims unsubstantiated in her public statement.
